Tile Depot was born from a unique opportunity created by the U.S. Duty-Free program (ATPA/ATPDEA), which allowed for the export of Bolivian-manufactured goods to the U.S. market. In 2003, founder José Candia recognized the potential to export high-quality tiles from Bolivia to California for wholesale distribution. Operating through his company, MCI Representaciones, José launched what would become the foundation of Tile Depot.
When the trade program ended in 2008, José adapted by converting the warehouse into a retail store—shifting the business model from export to local distribution. This pivot marked the beginning of a new chapter, focused on offering customers in Northern California access to premium wall and floor tiles from top manufacturers around the world.
